The heavens declare the glory of God

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.1 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.” “For He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.”2

In the beginning, God was revealed in all the works of creation. It was Christ that spread the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth. It was His hand that hung the worlds in space, and fashioned the flowers of the field. “His strength setteth fast the mountains.” “The sea is His, and He made it.” It was He that filled the earth with beauty, and the air with song. And upon all things in earth, and air, and sky, He wrote the message of the Father’s love.3

Throughout creation, “God is love” is written upon every opening bud, upon every spire of springing grass. The lovely birds making the air vocal with their happy songs, the delicately tinted flowers in their perfection perfuming the air, the lofty trees of the forest with their rich foliage of living green — all testify to the tender, fatherly care of our God and to His desire to make His children happy.4 Indeed, every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.5 Every sunbeam, every breathe of fresh air, every moment of joy and happiness is a gift from our loving Father in heaven. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.6

Although sin has marred God’s perfect creation: even today God’s creative wonders have not ceased. The Psalmist declares the prayer of every true Christian…. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me 7

And the Lord continues His work of creation with this promise… “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.8

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.9

For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth;
And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.10
